Although it is claimed (eg by the Birmingham City Council trade unions) that the recent conomic crisis is leading to the destruction of Social Services in the city, it is actually the case that BCC has been shutting down units and facitlities for vulnerable people since our very own "Con-Lib" coalition took office in 2004.
What's behind this "sleight of hand" by the Council unions?
firstly it is their blind economism -to 'blame' the world economic crisis is simple and seems obvious: it absolves them from having to explain what is really happening; second, it covers up their own culpability in the "Closure Programme" that is reaching it's climax in it's 7th year!
